Purpose.
A clinical test to assess the efficacy of the Visonic Dome ultrasonic contact lens cleaner as compared to the leading enzymatic cleaning solutions in the removal of protein deposits on contact lenses.
Method.
Contact lenses were worn and then subjected to one of two cleaning treatments: the Visonic Dome contact lens cleaning device and a leading enzymatic cleaner. The labeling directions were followed for each of the cleaning regimens. The cleaning results were then compared with the use of a scanning electron microscope.
Results.
High magnification photographs demonstrate that the Visonic Dome is as effective as enzymatic cleaning in removing stubborn protein deposits from soft contact lenses.
After treatment, no large deposits are left on the lenses. Only a few small (1 – 25 micron) deposits were left on lenses treated with either system.
New Contact Lens
A contact lens that has never been worn. The lens is free of any significant protein deposits. Magnification of contact lens surface at approximately 400x.
Worn Contact Lens
An untreated example of a contact lens with protein deposits prior to cleaning.
Enzymatic Cleaner
Contact lens cleaned with leading enzymatic cleaning solution. Lens surface is free of any significant protein deposits. Magnification of contact lens surface at approximately 400x.
Visonic Dome
Contact lens cleaned with the Visonic Dome.* Lens surface is free of any significant protein deposits. Magnification of contact lens surface at approximately 400x.
Conclusion.
Visonic Dome is as effective as enzymatic cleaning in removing stubborn protein deposits from soft contact lenses.
Visonic Dome eliminates the need for time-consuming, weekly enzyme cleaning.
