Heads up!
Since the time that I wrote this post, there’s been a change of plans. Now, Visonic Dome is coming exclusively to Kickstarter. No more Indiegogo campaign! Instead of a “Secret Perk,” you can now get your Visonic Dome for -50% off in the first 72 hours by backing the project as an “Early Bird.”
Click here to read more about why we switched from Indiegogo to Kickstarter and what that change means for the project.
Thanks!
Can You Keep A Secret?
I wrote last time about how the Visonic Dome crowdfunding campaign will use the Indiegogo Secret Perks to give early backers a huge discount. Today, I want to explain a little more about what the Indiegogo Secret Perks system is and how it works.
What are Indiegogo Secret Perks?
Secret Perks is a feature exclusive to the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform.
Basically, it works like a secret web link to an exclusive discount. When you click the link, you get to see a reward on the Indiegogo campaign page that’s invisible to everyone else.
Only backers who click on the secret link can see the secret perk.
In that way, the secret perk works a lot like a discount promo code.
Indiegogo recommends using Secret Perks to offer a special discount and thank loyal subscribers. That’s why we’re sending out a secret link to everyone who signs up for the free email notification and RSVPs to pledge their support in the first 72 hours. If you’re one of the first 1,000 backers to click through the link in your email inbox, you can get your Visonic Dome reward for -50% off MSRP.
Once a secret, always a secret?
I’ve mentioned before that this Indiegogo campaign is a limited edition. We’re only making 5000 Visonic Domes and when the campaign ends after 32 days, it’s over.
Usually, you can see how many backers a campaign has by looking at the top of the campaign page. The number of supporters is listed next to the total amount of money raised.
But an often overlooked side-effect of Indiegogo Secret Perks is that the true number of backers gets skewed.
By that I mean, a Secret Supporter is a secret. They aren’t listed in the official number.
And that can lead to some weird math. If you’re unaware of how many secret supporters there are, a quick glance at the total money raised can be deceiving.
For most campaigns, that probably doesn’t matter. But the Visonic Dome campaign is for a limited edition. And it’s easy to imagine backers getting confused about how many Domes are actually claimed.
Secret or not, the goal is still to make 5,000 Visonic Domes – and not a single Dome more than that!
So expect to see some regular updates with screenshots of the Indiegogo creator portal where I’ll show you the exact number of backers, up until the entire limited edition is claimed.
